As the new year begins, Senators are focused on negotiating to reauthorize the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which expired on September 30th.
CACFP provides reimbursements to early care and education (ECE) programs, like child care centers and Head Start centers, when they provide healthy meals and snacks to children.
For months, supporters have been pushing for child nutrition reauthorization.
The Senate is finally ready to consider adding an extra snack option in the bill for children who are in ECE centers for more than 8 hours per day. This provision is crucial because it would provide hungry children with an additional healthy snack, which is necessary for proper growth and development.
As the negotiations move forward in the coming weeks, we urge you to call your Senators TODAY to ensure that improvements are made to CACFP to better serve young children.
