IDHS Health and Safety Trainings – Summer 2018
In response to the IDHS requirement for all child care providers who participate in the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) to complete Child Development, Health, and Safety Basics trainings, in addition to What Is CCAP?, CPR/First Aid, and Mandated Reporter training, by September 30, 2018, Illinois Action for Children, along with our Community Partners, is pleased to offer the following trainings that will help you meet the requirements.

Please note, there is no cost to attend these trainings. Children are not permitted at the trainings.
In addition to the courses below, you must also complete Child Abuse and Neglect State Mandated Reporter training, that is ONLY available online.
Please also note, that you must self-report your completion of Child Abuse and Neglect State Mandated Reporter training as well as CPR and First Aid in the Gateways to Opportunity Registry. Child Development Health and Safety Basics Trainings and What Is CCAP? will automatically be reported for you.

Child Safety Days | Summer 2018 Training Schedule
Attend free Child Safety Days on select Thursdays and Saturdays in August and September to complete your CPR and First Aid certification and the Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse: Training for Mandated Reporters. Child Development Health and Safety Basics Training | Summer 2018 Course Listings
During a total of four hours, participants will receive an overview of child development, health, and safety issues for children birth through school-age. Emphasis will be on understanding patterns of development, developmental domains, ad the role of nutrition in development. In addition, health and safety issues will address supporting the growth of healthy children – from the basics such as handwashing to more in-depth practices surrounding healthy procedures and disease prevention. Participants will learn more about emergency planning/preparedness and first aid as well as tips for maintaining safe indoor/outdoor environments.

Please note: you will also need to complete What Is CCAP? and complete and self-report in Gateways both CPR/First Aid and Mandated Reporter training by September 30, 2018, in order to meet the IDHS training requirement.

Join this informative session to become more familiar with the Illinois Child Care Assistance Program’s (CCAP) policy and procedures, including the application process, provider qualifications, the payment process, and parent co-payments. The CCAP is funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services.

SAYD Credential Level 1— Modules: 4a & 4b Health, Nutrition and Safety
SAYD Credential Level 1 – Modules 4a & 4b Health, Nutrition and Safety | Summer 2018 Course Listings
Do you only care for school aged children (6-13) and need to complete CCAP health and safety training?
Note: Providers who only care for school aged children (6-13), can choose to complete SAYD modules 4a and 4b in order to fulfill training requirements as outlined in the Child Care Assistance Program Manual. Providers who serve school aged children and children of other ages must complete the ECE Level 1 Credential and may qualify for a rate add-on if they are not already receiving an add-on through the Child Care Assistance Program. Completing SAYD modules 4a and 4b will not qualify you for a rate add-on.
Participants will review current licensing guidelines and the National Afterschool Association (NAA) Standards to review health issues, and practices that ensure the well-being of school-age children and youth. Module 4a will also explain how overall good health support child and youth development, and identify ways to support children and youth in making healthy choices. Module 4b is designed to look at a provider’s role and responsibilities when it comes to safety policies and procedures in working with school-age and youth.
