In this Issue
In this month of eAdvocate we bring you into the home stretch of the legislative session with some important reminders and resources on the Child Tax Credit, upcoming events, and information on the President’s American Family Plan.
Remember the Child Tax Credit!
Many families are not aware of the monumental changes to the Child Tax Credit. Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, the Child Tax Credit has been expanded so that most American families with children will receive a monthly check of up to $300 per child. This equates to $3600 a year and will reduce child poverty by half!
Learn more about changes to the tax code and what the expanded Child Tax Credit can mean for you and your family here.
And by the way, stimulus checks are still available! For anyone who needs help navigating stimulus checks and tax returns at GetMyPaymentIL.org or call 888.553.9777. Resources are available for nonprofit partners in English, Spanish, Tagalog, Chinese, and Arabic.

American Family Plan
President Biden’s American Family Plan proposes historic investments in child care and early learning, including $225 billion for child care and $200 billion for universal pre-K. The proposal underscores the President’s commitment to building a care infrastructure that ensures a more equitable and sustainable recovery and meaningfully addressing the child care crisis that pre-dated COVID-19. The American Family Plan also includes $225 billion for paid leave and extends the Child Tax Credit through 2024.
We know that child care is the backbone of our economy and that investing in high-quality child care, accessible to all children, gives children a better chance to thrive in school and in life. And we are appreciative of the President in recognizing that making child care available to all children is essential for moving towards a more equitable future.
